It was one of those small beginnings, when Missionary P.C. Sorenson, with his wife, Lillian, of the American Sunday School Union, opened Camp Joy for the first week of camp on Star Lake. They took the three letters of "JOY": J-Jesus first, O-Others second and Y-Yourself last as their motto.
Camp Joy began in its current location in 1941 and continues to be run by missionaries with InFaith. Because Camp Joy is inter-denominational we are able to minister to those of various churches along with many who are not actively involved in any church. Camp Joy today, consists of 14 cabins (Each with 10 beds), Chapel & Dining Hall which each seat 120 people, Staff House with 5 bedrooms & kitchen, Cooks housing, Class-rooms, Canteen, Infirmary and restrooms. Future plans include a recreation building.
Camp Joy can accommodate 100 campers in the summer months. The camp is in the process of being developed for winter use with 5 cabins, the Staff House and the Dining Hall presently heated. We can accommodate approximately 25 campers in the winter months. Camp Joy is a lake camping atmosphere with counselors and speakers ministering the word of God to boys and girls; men and women. Our program is based on the Bible as the inspired infallible word of God. Campers are taught and counseled in Bible truths with emphasis on salvation in Jesus Christ and instruction in Christian living. Camping also includes other supervised activities such as crafts, swimming, boating, sports, etc.
Finances:
The work of Camp Joy is carried on by people like you who lovingly donate their time talents and money. The fee that is charged campers only covers ½ of our annual budget. The rest comes from donations
The Missionaries:
InFaith Missionaries Dale & Lisa Heaton are the Directors of Camp Joy. They have served at Camp Joy for 20+ years. The work at Camp Joy requires much of their time to direct programs, recruit staff and plan the details necessary for a successful Christian camping outreach. They are assisted by InFait, The Star Lake Bible Camp Association and a host of Christian volunteer workers.
Their ministry is to reach out to people who are largely bypassed by other ministries. They strive to see men and women, boys and girls come to know Jesus Christ and to grow in Him. The Mission Statement of InFaith is to “Evangelize, disciple and congregate the yet unreached peoples of the United States for Jesus Christ.” Dale and Lisa do not receive support from the camper fees but instead trust God to raise up individuals to support them financially and through prayer.
